Jim, of Hatteras Jack, reports that anglers are still catching some sea mullet, croaker, spot, and other bottom feeders in the local surf on shrimp and bloodworms.

Casting Gulp baits and other soft plastics in the sound has been producing plenty of action with speckled trout and puppy drum.

The flounder bite remains solid in the new inlet north of Rodanthe, where soft plastics or live baits will get attention from the flatfish.

Josh, of Rodanthe Pier, reports that anglers have been catching bluefish and some spanish mackerel from the pier on Gotcha plugs and other metal casting lures.

Bottom fishermen are connecting with some spot, croaker, sea mullet, pigfish, and more on shrimp and bloodworm baits.

Ginger, of Frank and Fran’s, reports that anglers are hooking good numbers of sea mullet in the surf on bottom rigs baited with bloodworms and sand fleas. Pompano and some puppy drum are taking an interest in shrimp and sand fleas.

Schools of bluefish and spanish mackerel are chasing bait up and down the beachfront and occasionally moving into range of surf casters.

Good numbers of flounder and some speckled trout are feeding in the sound, where anglers are hooking them on soft plastics and live baits.

Bob, of Frisco Tackle, reports that sea mullet, pompano, spot, and croaker are taking an interest in bottom rigs baited with shrimp, sand fleas, and bloodworms in the local surf.

Some puppy drum are in the mix for surf casters as well.

Spanish mackerel are feeding just off the beaches and occasionally coming into range of surf casters who are hooking them on metal casting jigs. The spanish action’s been best around the Point.

Kyle, of Frisco Rod and Gun, reports that anglers are still connecting with bottom feeders like sea mullet, spot, pompano, croaker, and more in the Frisco, Buxton, and Hatteras surf. Some puppy drum and bluefish are mixed in.

Bluefish and spanish mackerel are feeding around Cape Point, where surf casters can tempt them to bite metal casting jigs. The early morning and late evening hours offer the best odds for the spaniards.

Large sharks are also feeding around the point, and they have a tough time turning down cut baits.

Boaters trolling around Hatteras Inlet are still hooking big numbers of spanish mackerel and bluefish on Clarkspoons.

There’s also been a decent flounder bite for anglers working the sound.

The local offshore fleet is still hooking dolphin along with some blackfin tuna, wahoo, white marlin, and sailfish while trolling ballyhoo and baitless lures off Hatteras Inlet.

Offshore bottom fishing is producing plenty of action with sea bass and grouper.

Melinda, of Tradewinds Tackle, reports that anglers are catching some citation-class red drum in the sound, particularly in the evening hours. Chumming and bottom fishing with cut baits has been the most productive strategy.

Surf casters are connecting with some black drum, sea mullet, and pompano on shrimp and sand flea baits.

Bluefish and a few spanish mackerel are taking an interest in metal casting lures that anglers are working from the beach, particularly at south point, which has been reopened to access.

The offshore boats are reporting some sailfish action.
