Egret Baits’ Vudu Shrimp

After nearly a year on the market, Egret Baits’ Vudu Shrimp has proven its place in local inshore anglers’ tackle boxes, and the company has added an upsized Jumbo Vudu to the line for anglers and fish looking for a larger profile bait.

The Vudu Shrimp’s unique appearance belies unique construction—a strip of Kevlar fabric throughout the lure’s body and segmented tail (both made of the same rubber compound in tennis shoe soles) makes the lure much stronger and more durable than other soft shrimp on the market. Anglers testing the baits out reported landing over 50 speckled trout on a single bait.

Toughness doesn’t come at the cost of action with the Vudu, as the notched tail flexes to perfectly replicate the “flick” of a frightened live shrimp when twitched.

Long, lifelike legs and antennae add to the realism of the bait and offer additional action on the retrieve or twitch.

Fishing the shrimp under a popping cork adds a note of authentic sound to the shrimp’s action, and Egret highly recommends that approach, even introducing their own line of Rattling Corks to the market for a complete package. Fished without the float, the lures also excel in deeper water, and Louisiana captains report success while slow-trolling them as well.

Those who’ve fished the Vudu Shrimp also offer high praise to the 4X strong hook, reporting hooking virtually every trout in the roof of the mouth, regardless of size, and almost zero pulled hooks, a tough task to accomplish with soft-mouthed, head-shaking speckled trout.

The shrimp aren’t just for specks, however, as North Carolina red drum and flounder have also shown an enthusiastic response to the new baits, along with snook, snapper, and a host of other shrimp-eating species throughout the South Atlantic and Gulf coasts.

At 3.25” and 1/8 oz., the original Vudu Shrimp is ideal for shallower situations or early season action when the shrimp are still small. The 4”, 1/4 oz. Jumbo Vudu offers anglers longer casting distance and a bolder presentation, ideal for stained or deeper water and larger fish. Glowing eyes set off a host of natural and attention-grabbing colors available in both sizes.

Local anglers can find Vudu Shrimp at tackle shops throughout the Carolina coast. More information on them and Egret Baits’ other offerings, along with a list of local dealers, are available at www.egretbaits.com.
