Jetter Lewis, of Fairmont, NC, with a 35 lb. king mackerel that he hooked near Little River Inlet.
Mark, of Shallow Minded Inshore Fishing, reports that the inshore bite has improved markedly over the last week.
Anglers are again catching some stout (10+ lbs.) red drum around the Little River jetties on live shrimp and pogies. Boats are finding even larger (20-30 lbs.) reds at structure in 50-55’ in the ocean, so those fish may make a move to the inlet at any time.
Along with the reds, anglers are picking up some flounder, gray trout, whiting, and more while fishing shrimp on the bottom in the inlet.
Inshore, there have been good numbers of black drum and some speckled trout feeding around Coquina Harbor and the creekmouths off the ICW. Live shrimp on Mission Fishin’ jigheads and beneath floats are fooling the specks and drum.
Brian, of Fish-On Outfitters, reports that anglers are still catching decent numbers of flounder in the creeks and marshes at Cherry Grove. Live mud minnows are fooling the majority of the flatfish.
The sheepshead bite has been solid lately as well. Anglers are hooking up with the sheeps around the Little River jetties and the docks along the ICW. Sand fleas are fooling most of the fish.
Big numbers of sharks are feeding just off the beaches, and boats are catching plenty of them while drifting with large cut baits.
Stephanie Allison and Olga Caissy with a pair of amberjacks and a king mackerel they hooked on ballyhoo under pink/green skirts while fishing 30 miles out of Little River Inlet with Capt. Russ Phipps on the "Lainey II" out of the Myrtle Beach Yacht Club.
Tyler, of Cherry Grove Pier, reports that bottom fishermen have been decking some whiting while baiting up with shrimp.
Flounder are feeding near the pilings, and anglers are hooking up with them on live shrimp and minnows. Around half have been keepers recently.
Sheepshead (to 4-5 lbs.) are also feeding along the pier’s pilings and falling for sand fleas and other crustacean baits.
Plug casters are hooking up with bluefish and a few spanish mackerel.

Thursday, July 29th, 2010Dennis, of Island Tackle and Hardware, reports that overall the flounder bite has slowed down a bit inshore, but anglers did catch some citation-class (5+ lbs.) flatfish in Snow’s Cut last week.
