Ryan, of Hatteras Jack, reports that anglers are picking up some bottomfish like sea mullet, spot, and pompano while casting shrimp and bloodworms in the surf. Some puppy drum have been mixed in as well.

The soundside red drum bite is still going strong, with anglers catching big numbers of slot and over-slot reds on cut baits, finger mullet, and soft plastics.

Ervin, of The Fishin’ Hole, reports that anglers are hooking keeper puppy drum in the sound at night. The best action has been for anglers soaking cut baits from spots along the back side of the island.

Some puppy drum are also feeding in Oregon Inlet, where anglers are connecting with flounder as well.

Sheepshead have shown up around the pilings of the Bonner Bridge.

Surf casters are hooking some sea mullet and pompano, but the bite hasn’t been great this week. Shrimp and bloodworms are producing most of the action with the surf bottom feeders.

Tammy, of Frank and Fran’s, reports that surf casters are connecting with some sea mullet, spot, croaker, and small flounder on bottom rigs baited with shrimp and bloodworms. Some pufferfish are mixed in, as are some pompano when the water’s clean.

Anglers fishing the sound side of the island have been hooking some smaller puppy drum.

Bev, of Frisco Tackle, reports that anglers bottom fishing in the surf are still connecting with a mixed bag of puppy drum, pompano, sea mullet, bluefish, spot, and other bottom feeders.

Shrimp, bloodworms, and cut baits are fooling the fish in the breakers.

Kyle, of Frisco Rod and Gun, reports that surf casters are connecting with sea mullet, pompano, black drum, and a few spot and puppy drum along the island’s southern beaches. Shrimp, sand fleas, and bloodworms are fooling the fish in the surf.

One 53” cobia was also hooked from the Hatteras beachfront last week.

Bluefish and spanish mackerel are feeding along the beachfront and around the inlet, and boats are hooking them while trolling Clarkspoons and working casting lures around fish feeding on the surface.

Boats fishing the sound are connecting with good numbers of puppy drum.

Offshore, boats are releasing good numbers of billfish while trolling the blue water off the inlet. Good numbers of gaffer dolphin are still in the area, along with plenty of blackfin tuna. King mackerel and a few wahoo are mixed in. Ballyhoo paired with skirted trolling lures are fooling most of the blue water predators.

Dropping jigs and baits to bottom structure offshore is producing some grouper action.

JAM, of Teach’s Lair Marina, reports that anglers are still catching some solid gaffer dolphin off Hatteras Inlet (including a monster 73 lb. fish last week). Some blackfin tuna are still in the mix as well, and there have been good numbers of white marlin releases tallied by the Hatteras fleet lately.

Puppy drum and some flounder are falling for both soft plastics and cut and live baits in the sound.

Surf casters have been hooking up with bluefish, sea mullet, puppy drum, and some citation pompano recently.

Jay, of Bite Me Charters, reports that anglers released several white marlin this week and saw some blues as well. Good numbers of gaffer dolphin are still around, and both are falling for naked and skirted ballyhoo. A few blackfin tuna are also in the mix.

Bottom fishing has been producing some grouper and tilefish.

Melinda, of Tradewinds Tackle, reports that anglers are still catching solid numbers of gaffer dolphin while trolling offshore.

Cobia fishing remains solid along the beachfront and around the inlets, and anglers are hooking the cobes while both soaking bait and sight-casting.

Surf anglers are finding action with some fat pompano, sheepshead, and sea mullet. Shrimp and sand fleas are producing most of the action.
