Product Review – Berkley Choppo Lure

Decrease Font Size Increase Font Size Text Size Print This Page

Berkley is introducing a saltwater version of their already famous Choppo lure just in time for the summer redfish and trout bite here in North Carolina. This lure is designed to fish on the top of the water column but is revolutionizing how typical topwater lures are fished.

Instead of “walk the dog” style of action from competitors in the market, Berkley has taken their design a step further with this lure. Rather than having to mimic the motion of the zig-zag pattern of other lures with rod tip action, the Choppo is designed with a propeller tail which chops water in a trail to mimic that of a mullet or other baitfish swimming on the surface.

The revolutionary propeller tail found on the lure will not melt in the North Carolina summertime heat and is packed with a strategic amount of surface area to allow for just the right amount of underwater noise and wake.

There are currently ten different color options that are being offered for these topwater lures, and the lures come available in two different lengths (105 mm or 120 mm). Along with these length options, there are also two separate weight options: 3/4 oz. and 1 oz.

Topwater lures are a great application for redfish and trout in all varieties of environments, as these predatory fish habitually cannot resist the rattle and popping that such lures make, and the result is often the triggering of reactive bites.

With the summertime redfish and trout bite heating up in the creeks, rivers, and marshes up and down the North Carolina coast, there is not a better time to get out there with the Berkley Choppo to try and generate some blowups from these hard-fighting fish.

Berkley’s Choppo lure should be available wherever you buy tackle, and more information can also be found online at www.berkley-fishing.com.
