Barry, at Cape Fear Marine and Tackle, reports a lot of king mackerel from Carolina Beach Inlet out to the 12 mile areas. There were two fish weighed in over 30 lbs., and both came from near the sea buoy.
Spanish fishing is still consistent, and bottom fishing has picked up 25 to 30 miles offshore. Sailfish are scattered, but they should be coming more prevalent nearshore. A few dolphin were caught around the Schoolhouse in the 15 lb. class.
Inshore, the flounder fishing has really picked up in the waterway and the river around Carolina Beach. The speckled trout and red drum are mostly being caught in the lower end of the river.

Steve, at Seagull Bait and Tackle, reports that the fishing is in a typical summer pattern. Pompano, whiting, and croakers have been coming from the surf, with the fishing better in the mornings and evenings.
Blues and spanish continue to bite for pier fishermen, and the piers have also enjoyed a few more flounder catches this past week.
The waterway and river has speckled trout, puppy drum, and smaller flounder. The biggest flounder of the week was a 5 lb. fish. No big ones came in all week.
The presence of baitfish continues to be slow. The menhaden have thinned out, and the mullet minnows are still not big enough.
