Barry, at Cape Fear Marine and Tackle, reports inshore fishing has been good despite the weather. Flounder and red drum are being caught from Snow’s Cut, down in the river, and in the surf. Speckled trout fishing is picking up in the river, and gray trout are showing up on nearshore reefs and in the surf.
As soon as the ocean calms, there should be some hungry king and spanish mackerel nearshore. The dolphin will be moving further offshore. Wahoo and yellowfin tuna hookups will become more common, and there may be a few white marlin still lingering.

Steve, at Seagull Bait and Tackle, reports that catches of blues, jack crevalles, and flounder have come recently from the inlet.
Surf fishing has been producing catches of blues and whiting. There have also been some puppy drum caught, with most of them coming at night.
The flounder and puppy drum fishing in the waterway and river has been a little slow, but there have still been a few big flounder weighed in. For bigger puppy drum (weighing up to 20 lbs.), hit the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Bays.
A welcome sign is that they’re starting to see some spots in Snow’s Cut and off of the Carolina Beach Pier.
