Scott, of The Fishin’ Hole, reports that anglers have been catching pufferfish, sea mullet, and other panfish in the local surf, although high winds and seas have made keeping baits on the bottom difficult at times. Shrimp and Fish Bites baits are fooling most of the fish.
A large red drum was also caught in the surf last week.
Anglers working casting lures from the Bonner Bridge had some good spanish mackerel action recently.
Kelly, of Rodanthe Pier, reports that anglers are connecting with croaker, sea mullet, small flounder, and other bottom feeders. Shrimp, cut baits, and other offerings are fooling the fish.
Several over-slot red drum have been released recently.
Anglers are hooking some bluefish on casting lures and baited bottom rigs.
Ginger, of Frank and Fran’s, reports that local surf casters are hooking some sea mullet, black drum, bluefish, puppy drum, and some early pufferfish. Shrimp and Fish Bites baits are fooling most of the smaller fish, with cut baits getting attention from the blues and drum.
There was a good spanish mackerel bite before the NE winds came on strong last weekend, and anglers are hoping the fish are still around after the blow. Metal casting jigs are fooling the mackerel when they’re feeding close to shore.
Bob, of Frisco Tackle, reports that there have been some decent catches of sea mullet, black drum, and bluefish for anglers soaking baits in the local surf. Shrimp and cut baits are producing most of the action.
More bluefish and some spanish mackerel are falling for casting lures that anglers are working from the beachfront.
Kyle, of Frisco Rod and Gun, reports that anglers are connecting with some sea mullet, pompano, and other bottom feeders in the surf of Hatteras Island’s southern beaches. Most are falling for shrimp and Fish Bites baits.
Anglers casting metal lures from the shore around Buxton and Hatteras are connecting with some spanish mackerel and bluefish.
Inshore boaters continue to find plenty of action with slot to citation-class red drum while soaking cut baits and working lures like gold spoons.
Flounder have also been looking for meals in the sound and biting baits and soft plastics.
Spanish mackerel and bluefish are feeding around Hatteras Inlet, and they’re biting Clarkspoons and other flashy lures for trolling boats.
Bottom fishing inshore is producing a mixture of croaker, spot, and other panfish.
The offshore fleet has found plenty of action with dolphin, yellowfin tuna, and wahoo while dragging baits off Hatteras Inlet. Some sailfish are around as well and falling for the naked and skirted ballyhoo that boats are trolling for the meatfish.
Offshore bottom fishermen are connecting with big hauls of sea bass, triggerfish, vermillion snapper, and porgies.
JAM, of Teach’s Lair Marina, reports that anglers are still connecting with a variety of sizes of red drum (slot to 40”+) while fishing the sound. Both baits and lures are attracting attention from the reds.
There’s also been some decent flounder fishing in the sound.
Offshore trollers are finding blackfin tuna and wahoo hungry off Hatteras Inlet. Ballyhoo paired with skirted lures are fooling both.
Jeremy, of Calypso Sportfishing, reports that anglers are connecting with big numbers of spanish mackerel and a few bluefish while trolling around Hatteras Inlet and along the beachfront. Most of the fish are falling for Clarkspoons pulled behind planers and trolling sinkers.
Melinda, of Tradewinds Tackle, reports that angler are hooking some large pompano in the surf of Ocracoke Island. Shrimp and sand fleas are fooling the pomps.
Anglers working metal casting lures from the beach are also finding action with some spanish mackerel.
