Ryan, of Hatteras Jack, reports that anglers are catching red drum (ranging from puppies to citation-class) in the surf, sound, and from the piers. Cut baits are fooling most of the reds.

Bottom fishing in the surf is producing action with pompano, bluefish, croaker, spot, sea mullet, and more. Shrimp, bloodworms, and sand fleas are fooling most of the fish.

Some flounder are feeding in Oregon and Hatteras inlets as well as the sound. Live baits and soft plastics are fooling the flatfish.

The speckled trout bite is still going in the sound, and surf casters to the north are catching them as well. Soft plastics are also fooling the specks.

Jamie, of Rodanthe Pier, reports that anglers are hooking some spot, pompano, and bluefish while bottom fishing with shrimp and bloodworms. Some flounder (a few keepers) are also coming over the rails.

Slot-sized and larger red drum are feeding around the pier and falling for a variety of baits.

Frank, of Frank and Fran’s, reports that anglers are hooking good numbers of sea mullet along with some spot, croaker, pompano, bluefish, and yearling and puppy drum in the surf, so fall fishing is getting started. Shrimp, bloodworms, sand fleas, and cut baits are all fooling the fish in the surf.

Cape Point has closed to off-road vehicles for a turtle nest, but it should be open again in a matter of days.

Anglers wading and boating in the sound are hooking speckled trout, puppy drum, and a few flounder while working soft plastic baits.

Bob, of Frisco Tackle, reports that surf casters are hooking bottom feeders like sea mullet, pompano, spot, croaker, and black and puppy drum from the local surf. Most are falling for shrimp, sand fleas, and cut baits.

Some flounder are also biting in the surf and taking an interest in Gulp and strip baits.

Anglers casting artificials in the sound are connecting with plenty of puppy drum.

Kyle, of Frisco Rod and Gun, reports that Cape Point has closed to vehicular access temporarily, but should reopen in around a week.

Surf casters on Hatteras’s southern beaches are hooking some puppy drum, bluefish, sea mullet, spot, and croaker. Shrimp, sand fleas, and cut baits on bottom rigs are producing most of the action in the suds.

The offshore fleet is hooking up with big numbers of dolphin along with some solid fishing for yellowfin tuna and dolphin. Naked and skirted ballyhoo are fooling most of the blue water predators. A few billfish are mixed in and also taking an interest in the ballyhoo.

Inshore boaters are hooking big numbers of puppy drum in the Pamlico Sound.

Jay, of Bite Me Sportfishing, reports that anglers are hooking big numbers of bailer dolphin (with a few gaffers) off Hatteras Inlet right now, along with yellowfin tuna and some wahoo. Naked and skirted ballyhoo are fooling the blue water predators.

JAM, of Teach’s Lair Marina, reports that the offshore fleet is finding some incredible wahoo fishing right now, with many limit catches hitting the docks. Dolphin and blackfin tuna have also been falling for the ballyhoo and skirted lures that boats are trolling in the blue water.

Puppy drum and speckled and gray trout are on the feed in the sound, and anglers are hooking solid numbers while casting soft plastic baits like Gulps. Some flounder are mixed in and taking an interest in the plastics along with live and strip baits.

Surf casters are hooking big numbers of tailor bluefish along with some pompano and sea mullet.

Cody, of Tradewinds Tackle, reports that anglers are hooking some bluefish along with red and black drum while surf fishing from Ocracoke’s beachfront. Some flounder (a few keepers) and a cobia were also caught from the beach last week.

Offshore, there’s still an excellent wahoo bite for boats trolling in the Gulf Stream. Good numbers of blackfin and yellowfin tuna are in the mix as well.
