Patrick, of Capt. Smiley’s Fishing Charters, reports that they’re catching plenty of smaller flounder throughout the Cherry Grove area. There are some larger fish (up to 4 lbs.) mixed in as well. Carolina-rigged mud minnows will get flounder bites, but anglers who can catch some larger pogies will have more luck with bigger fish. Tubbs Inlet is holding good numbers of flounder, too; however, most are on the small side.
Red drum are schooled up at the Little River jetties, and anglers are catching them with pogies pinned to Carolina rig or three way swivel rigs. Most of the drum are 24-27”, above SC’s slot limit maximum size of 24”.
Chopper blues (up to 10 lbs.) are feeding at the jetties, too, and they will not turn down a pogie. Fish the inlet during tide changes for best results.
Reds are also feeding in creek mouths off the ICW. These fish will hit live baits or Gulps.
Some anglers are catching small spanish mackerel around the Shoals at Tubbs and Little River Inlets by trolling Clark spoons. Most of the spanish are barely above the 12” minimum size limit.

Brendan, of Cherry Grove Pier, reports that bottom fishermen are finding a mixture of whiting, pompano, and black drum. All the bottom fish have been hitting shrimp well.
Plug casters are catching both spanish mackerel and bluefish.
Both kings and big bluefish are eating live baits fished off the end of the pier. A 34 lb. king was caught last week on a small bluefish.
The water temperature is 73 degrees.
