Mark Dickson, at Shallow Minded Guide Fishing, reports an excellent speckled trout bite in the Little River area. Bigger fish are coming off the jetties on live baits, while smaller size fish in bigger numbers are in the creeks and harbors hitting shrimp imitations.
Reds are in the usual areas, such as Bonaparte Creek, hitting Gulps and live baits.
Flounder are slowly arriving, especially in Cherry Grove and Tubbs Inlet. Most fish are of the small variety, and they prefer mud minnows on the bottom.
Off the beach, the Jim Caudle Reef is holding tons of bluefish in the 2 to 4 lb. range. The spanish should arrive anytime as warm water keeps edging towards the beach.
Patrick Kelly, at Captain Smiley’s Fishing Charters, reports super fishing going on recently. Redfish are on the flats hugging the oyster bars and eating Gulp jerk baits. The fish have been running 18 to 32 inches.
Speckled trout are biting well around the Sunset Beach Bridge and back in the creeks. They are ranging from 12 inches to 5 pounds and preferring Gulps (just like every other fish swimming).
Flounder are being caught more consistently in the inlets and creeks. They are mostly running around 12 to 16 inches in size. Drifting live baits or Gulps should entice a bite.
Steve Wise, of Sea Hunt Charters, reports that they’ve been having good offshore fishing trolling ballyhoo from the 100/400 to the Black Jack Hole. They’ve been finding dolphin in the 10-35 pound class and wahoo ranging from 20-70 pounds. The yellowfin bite has been slowing down lately.
They’ve been marking 76-degree water temps in 150-200’ of water. And the weedlines have been here and there.
