A pre-release shot of a blue marlin that angler Sammy Phillips caught after a 30 minute fight. He was trolling just south of the Steeples with Capt. Tuck Rion on the "Special Times II" out of North Myrtle Beach.

Patrick, of Capt. Smiley’s Fishing Charters, reports that the flounder bite is still going strong in Tubbs Inlet. Gulp baits on light jigheads and live shrimp have both been attracting attention from the flatfish (and some in the 6-7 lb. class have been landed lately).

Some speckled trout and reds are mixed in with the flatfish in Tubbs.

There’s been good action with red and black drum at ICW structure like Sunset Beach Bridge this past week (with reds running 18-30” and plenty of keeper black drum). Live shrimp are fooling both.

Dunn Sound has also been hosting some good red and black drum fishing lately, and most likely-looking spots inshore are worth at least a few casts right now.

Some large red drum (many in the 30” range, with a few much larger) are feeding around the Little River jetties, and live menhaden or cut baits should get their attention.

The speckled trout bite is picking up a bit, and anglers caught some specks (in the 18” range) last week while fishing live shrimp under popping corks in Bonaparte Creek.

Mark, of Shallow Minded Inshore Fishing Charters, reports that the flounder bite is still solid in Tubbs Inlet. Gulp baits and small live baits are producing most of the action with the flatfish.

There’s also been solid flounder action in Little River Inlet. Some large red drum (including a 52 incher caught and released last week) are also feeding in the inlet, and live menhaden have been attracting attention from both the flounder and the reds.

Finn Glasscock with a flounder that fell for a live menhaden while he was fishing Tubbs Inlet with Capt. Mark Dickson of Shallow Minded Inshore Fishing Charters.

Steve, of Cherry Grove Pier, reports that bottom fishermen have been connecting with some whiting, pompano, and black drum while baiting up with shrimp.

Some flounder are falling for live shrimp and minnows around the pier’s pilings.

Sheepshead are feeding around the pilings as well, and anglers caught several last week on barnacle baits.
