Mark, of Shallow Minded Guide Fishing, reports that flounder fishing has been solid in Tubbs Inlet over the past week. Most days have been producing 5-6 keepers with at least as many throwbacks, and Carolina-rigged tiger minnows and finger mullet are outproducing mud minnows with the flounder now.

The flounder bite has been best while drifting the inlet with moving water.

The Sunset Beach Bridge has also been producing some good fishing this week, with anglers casting while waiting for the bridge to open and landing some speckled trout, red drum, and black drum. Finger mullet, peanut pogies, and live shrimp pinned to float rigs and allowed to drift around the bridge have been fooling the fish.

Spanish mackerel are still feeding heavily in the inlet and along the beaches just outside.

Patrick, of Capt. Smiley’s Fishing Charters, reports that speckled trout fishing is excellent right now, with anglers landing decent numbers of fish in the 3-4 lb. class at the Sunset Beach Bridge and Little River jetties. Live shrimp fished under float rigs and Billy Bay Halo shrimp are producing most of the trout around the bridge, and anglers are hooking up at the jetties by casting Gulp shrimp and jerk baits on 1/4 oz. leadheads towards the rocks.

Some red drum are also feeding at the jetties and falling for the Gulps.

Spanish mackerel are chasing bait in the inlet, and anglers are hooking them by quickly casting Maria jigs towards the surface feeding activity.

Anglers are finding some larger drum (up to 30″) in Bonaparte Creek. Popping corks fished with live shrimp near the creek shell beds are getting most of the action.

Reds, black drum, and speckled trout are feeding in Dunn Sound. Anglers are encountering all three while fishing docks and deep holes with live shrimp on split shot rigs and under corks.

Tubbs Inlet is beginning to produce some larger flounder, and anglers are hooking them while drifting with Carolina-rigged mud minnows and other baits.

Drew, of Crowd Pleaser Sportfishing, reports that grouper fishing has been excellent over the past week at ledges and other structure in 120′ and deeper. Reds are providing most of the grouper action. Butterfly jigging has been producing excellent results with the grouper, and anglers are also hooking decent numbers of American red snapper at the same structure.

Amberjacks are schooled up at wrecks and other high-relief structure throughout the area, and they will pounce on the butterfly jigs, too.

King mackerel fishing has been tougher this week, and the abundant pogies that were around the area have scattered due to all the fronts lately.

Ronnie, of Cherry Grove Pier, reports an excellent flounder bite lately (with anglers weighing in fish up to 6 lbs.) for those bottom fishing with live mud minnows.

Anglers fishing cut shrimp on bottom rigs are catching some whiting.

Plug casters are catching bluefish and a few spanish mackerel.

A 12 lb. king mackerel fell for a live bait and was landed last week.

The water temperature is 82 degrees.
