Virginia Beckham, of Myrtle Beach, SC, with a 38" red drum she caught and released after it bit a live menhaden at the Little River jetties.

Mark, of Shallow Minded Inshore Fishing Charters, reports that there are still some large red drum (to 30+ lbs.) feeding around Little River Inlet, but the bite has gotten less consistent, with some days producing fish and others not. Live menhaden and mullet have been tempting the reds to bite when they’re in a feeding mood.

The speckled trout bite has turned on a bit around the inlet, too, and drifting live shrimp under floats along the jetties is the way to hook up with the specks. Anglers are starting to see some trout at spots along the ICW as well.

Large spanish mackerel are feeding on schools of finger mullet coming out of the inlet. Free-lining a live mullet around fish feeding on the surface will tempt bites from the spanish.

Gray trout are feeding at nearshore structure like the Jim Caudle Reef and the copper barges off Sunset Beach. There’s been a good flounder bite around the same structure lately, and both fish are biting live finger mullet.

Anglers saw a decent king mackerel bite develop around Cherry Grove Pier last week, with live menhaden fooling most of the fish.

Some black and red drum are feeding around oyster bars in Bonaparte Creek and behindSunsetBeach, and live shrimp will attract attention from both.

Patrick, of Capt. Smiley’s Fishing Charters, reports that anglers are seeing solid numbers of puppy drum (most 18-23”) feeding in the local creeks. Gulp baits and live shrimp on light jigheads are attracting plenty of attention from the reds.

Dunn Sound, the Little River Crossroads, and Bonaparte Creek produced action with black drum and some speckled trout along with the pups last week.

Flounder, black drum, and a few speckled trout are on the feed in Tubbs Inlet, and anglers are hooking both on Gulps and live baits.

Capt. Mark Dickson, of Shallow Minded Inshore Fishing Charters, with a 25 lb. king mackerel that bit a live menhaden just off Little River Inlet.

Steve, of Cherry Grove Pier, reports that some spot and sea mullet are taking an interest in bottom rigs baited with shrimp and bloodworms.

A few flounder have been feeding under the pier and biting small live baits (though most were on the small side last week).

One large red drum (30+ lbs.) was caught and released from the pier last week.

The water temperature is 72 degrees.
