Brant, at Ocean Isle Fishing Center, reports that the king mackerel have finally turned on just about anywhere in 30 to 60 feet of water. Fish in the 20 to 30 pound class have been caught especially well around the old sea buoy position out to Lighthouse Rocks.
Another area for good numbers of kings has been along the beach. Try the spots such as Yaupon Reef, Lockwood Folly Inlet, and Shallotte Inlet. Or you can hit the spots a little further off the beach at the 390/390, 410/510, and 15 Mile Rocks. All of the regular locations have been producing.
As for baitfish, plenty of menhaden are running the beach from Ocean Isle to Oak Island.
Spanish mackerel and bluefish are also biting well outside the inlets by trolling clark spoons.
Grouper and bottomfishing in general has slowed down due to the full moon and the stronger currents, but the bite should turn on this week as the currents settle down.
A few sailfish have been reported in cleaner water in the 80+ foot depths, and gulf stream anglers are having good trips targeting wahoo.Trey, at Ocean Isle Pier, reports that some spots have been biting both natural and artificial bloodworms in the mornings.
A few flounder are also feeding early in the day. Try live shrimp and mud minnows.
Anglers are sporadically catching black drum up to 2 lbs.
Sheepshead weighing up to 10 lbs. have also been in the mix.
