Brant, at Ocean Isle Fishing Center, reports that good-sized spanish mackerel (in the 20 to 30 inch range) are biting along the beach and outside the area inlets. Most of the action is coming from trolling spoons.

A few kings have finally made their way to the beach. There have been solid reports coming from around the Cape Fear River channel and Yaupon Reef. And plenty of bait is on the beach, with the better numbers coming from around Holden and Ocean Isle.

Offshore, the snapper and grouper have been biting fairly well in 80 to 110 foot of water.

In the gulf stream, the wahoo bite has been sporadic, but there have been some impressive catches. Some good spots to try are the 100/400 and the Steeples.

Trey, at Ocean Isle Pier, reports that the spot bite is on and off. Some days the night bite is hot, sometimes the afternoon is better, and some days they don’t bite at all. Bloodworms and shrimp are producing the best results when the spots are around.

Some pompano and whiting are mixed in with the spots, and they are eating shrimp.

And flounder fishermen have been catching some legal sized flatfish on mud minnows.
