Ocean Isle Spring Trout & Flounder Classic 2006

The Ocean Isle Fishing Center Spring Flounder & Trout Classic, held May 5-6, saw a number of good-sized flounder and speckled trout brought to the scales. All of the placing trout came from the Little River jetties, and a majority of the flounder came from the Ocean Isle Beach canals.

The tournament’s big winner was Kyle Hughes. Hughes weighed in an 8.55 lb. trout and a 1.80 lb. flounder. His two-species aggregate of 10.35 lbs. was the tournament’s highest.

The top flounder finishers are as follows: Wyatt Pegram in first with a 5.75 lb. flounder, Ricky Lefler in second with a 4.25 lb. flounder, James Locey in third with a 3.15 lb. flounder, John Starnes in fourth with a 2.25 lb. flounder, and Ronnie Trexler in fifth with a 1.80 lb. flounder.

The top trout finishers are as follows: Brandon Sauls in first with a 6.45 lb. trout, Brent Banks in second with a 5.85 lb. trout, Matt Owens in third with a 5.80 lb. trout, Tim Fletcher in fourth with a 5.50 lb. trout, and Ricky Kellum in fifth with a 4.40 lb. trout.

The tournament, in conjunction with the Ocean Isle Fishing Center, is put on by Shallow Water Boat Sales and Majek Boats.
