The 2006 Seacoast Anglers Association 1st Annual Family Flounder Tournament, held at Harbourgate Marina in North Myrtle Beach on May 12-13, 2006, opened with beautiful weather, and the good conditions continued all through the tournament. Although a bit windy, the 79 adult anglers and 22 youth anglers fishing in 39 boats managed to catch some nice flounder.

The tournament structure included 10 placings in the Adult Division and 5 placings in the Youth Division. By the end of the weekend, over $3,500 in cash and prizes were given out.

The Adult Division First Place Flounder was a 6.79 lb. (25.75”) flounder weighed in by Ricky Lefler of Albemarle, NC.

The Youth Division First Place winner was Sydney Bellamy of Little River, SC, with a 2.14 lb. (17.75”) flounder.

The Lady Angler prize of a gold flounder necklace (donated by Wu Sang Jewelry of Myrtle Beach) was won by Lisa Gore of Little River, SC.

The major sponsor for the tournament was Marine Service Center in Longs, SC, owned by Mickey Thompson. Other sponsors included Boulineau’s Inc., West Marine, Johnny’s Bait & Tackle, and Coast Bait & Tackle.

Advertising by about 40 local businesses and individuals, entry fees, and donations from sponsors helped raise money for the Seacoast Anglers Association’s charity, the “HOOK a Kid on Fishing” program. In fact, 100% of the profit from the 2006 tournament is going to the program.

The “HOOK a Kid on Fishing” program takes kids from 8-14 years old in the area out fishing on head boats to enjoy the experience and excitement of being on the ocean. The Seacoast Anglers Association looks for kids who would not normally get a chance to experience a day of offshore fishing, and the trip is fully paid for by the association.

The 2006 SAA Flounder Tournament Committee—Chairman Frank Basso, Chris Carbone, Len Morley, Ed Bott, and George Warren—thank all who attended and supported the tournament, and they hope to see everyone next year.
