Dale, at Reel Outdoors, reports that the surf has seen catches of pompano, flounder, and some blues. The blues have been small, and the spanish bite just on the beach has been on and off.
The flounder in the sound are biting but they continue to be small. White Oak River has been doing well for flounder on both live bait and artificials, such as river grubs and Calcutta minnows.
Red drum and trout are biting in the sound. In one hole you’ll find some gray trout and in another you’ll find some specks.
The kings are being caught from on the beach on out. You don’t need to go out beyond 10 miles to find good-sized fish. The piers landed a couple of 30 lb. class kings this week, and the average size seems to be from 8 to 16 lbs. The dolphin bite has been in as close as three miles.
Mollie, at Bogue Inlet Pier, reports that they’ve caught a few spots early in the morning, but they’ve all been small. There’s also been a gray trout bite early in the morning. The bottom fishermen have caught a couple of croakers and some sea mullet. The pluggers have been picking up a few blues and spanish. The pier has also seen a couple of kings weighed in this week, both in the 30 lb. range.
