Dale, at Reel Outdoors, reports that the best bite has been blues on the beach and off the piers. They’ve been landing several in the 5 to 12 lb. range. The surf has also had some catches of a few flounder and gray trout. The “Old Inlet” has seen an even better flounder bite, with a few weighing in up to 3.5 to 4 lbs. Red drum are being caught in 6 to 8 inches water tailing on the high tide.
Just off the beach they’re catching spanish with some small kings mixed in. Expect the kings to be 5 to 10 lbs.
Sharon, at Bogue Inlet Pier, reports that they’ve been landing several blues in the 7 to 9 lb. range. There’s lots of small blues, as well. The majority of the spanish caught have been 1.5 to 2 lbs. David Branch, of Greenville, landed a 53 lb. 6 oz. cobia over the weekend. Earlier in the week, the pier had released a handful of smaller cobia.
