Chris, at East Coast Sports, reports that Surf City Pier is catching a few spanish and some blues. They also had one cobia. Jolly Roger Pier had two cobia (53 and 21 lbs.), along with a few chopper blues and specks. Sea View Pier had three kings, with the largest at 23+ lbs.

In the surf, there has been a mixed bag of reds, mullet, and pompano.

There have been a couple of big black drum caught in Becky’s Creek. And specks are at the end of Trout Street. Guys have also been finding plenty of reds inside.

In the 0-20 mile range, there have been kings everywhere. So far it looks like the making of a banner year. Try Christmas Rock and the 200/200.

Further offshore, the dolphin have moved in to around 30 miles, and they continue to get closer.

Jimmy, at Bad Attitude Charters, reports that king mackerel in the 8 to 15 lb. range have moved in to the 10 to 12 mile areas on hard bottoms. Live bait can be jigged up around the D and E buoys.

Grouper are holding anywhere from 20 to 40 miles off New River Inlet. Some snapper were biting well around 18 miles out, but the east winds have made bottom fishing tough. Water temperatures in the 20-mile area have been around 74 degrees, so fishing should continue to improve as the wind lays down.

Ricky, at Speckled Specialist Charters, reports action heating up nearshore out of New River and Bogue Inlets. The flounder are still a few miles off the beach if you can get your bait past the sharks.

Spanish mackerel in the 3 to 4 lb. range are eating free-lined pogies, and a cobia won’t turn one down. Several cobia in the 40 inch range were caught on light tackle this week.

In the river, the redfish and speckled trout fishing remains consistent on artificials and live baits.

Willie, at Sea View Pier, reports several king mackerel being caught this past Memorial Day weekend. The kings ranged from 12 lbs. to 29 lbs. An estimated 50 lb. cobia was also brought in. All the kings and cobia were caught on bluefish, and Gotcha plugs are still catching spanish.

A few sea mullet and pompano are present, and water temps are 71 degrees.
