Chris, at East Coast Sports, reports that mullets and pompano are biting in the surf from New River Inlet down to New Topsail Inlet. Off of Lee Island, the reds are still biting in numbers. Catch the reds at the north end of Lees with gold Kastmasters and Berkley Gulp shrimp.

Big black drum continue to be found in Beck’s Creek. There are also some trout and reds inside.

Small kings in numbers are off the beach, with Christmas Tree Rock and the 200/200 as the especially consistent spots. The Crystal Minnows and Manns Stretch Plugs have been working well.

And dolphin have been caught at Christmas Rock.

Jimmy, at Bad Attitude Charters, reports 6 miles off the beach is all that is needed to find plenty of king mackerel in the 6 to 9 lb. range, with a few fish in the 12 to 15 lb. range.

A few dolphin are mixed in as well, but most of them are being caught at least 20 miles out. As for bait, cigar minnows can be jigged up around the buoys outside of New River Inlet.

Grouper fishing has still been okay, but they are getting smaller. Fish are ranging 8 to 12 lbs., and it has been the best in the 12 to 14 mile areas.

Black sea bass are in the 6 to 7 mile areas, and plenty of them are biting.

Ricky, at Speckled Specialist Charters, reports a few speckled trout in the Sneads Ferry area, along with good reports of flounder moving in. The flounder should be just off the beach on hard bottoms and ledges (if you can get through the sharks still hanging around).

Kings and dolphin have been biting well around the Christmas Rock area.

Eric, at New River Marina, reports the bridge has been good for most species lately. Big spots and croakers are hitting shrimp or clams, and black drum and sheepshead (with a few running up around 10 to 15 lbs.) are hitting crabs.

Flounder are biting live baits well in the waterway and lower river areas.

Redfish are biting well in the river hitting gold spoons and spinner baits, and a few speckled trout are hitting live shrimp.

Along the beach, the spanish and blues are hitting trolled spoons and plugs.

Cobia and kings are along the nearshore wrecks, with a few around the inlets. Bottom fishing nearshore has been good for black sea bass as well.

Ed, at Surf City Pier, reports a small run of spanish and blues. A cobia was also caught off the end.

Get some sand fleas and go fishing this week after the full moon and on the rising tide to catch bigger mullet and whiting.

Willie, at Sea View Pier, reports that three kings were caught off the pier this past week. All weighed 23+ lbs.

A few spots and mullets are present, and Gotcha plugs are still catching small spanis
