Mark Dickson, at Shallow Minded Guide Fishing, reports a good week for speckled trout, with a few going bigger than 20 inches. They were hitting live mud minnows on a jighead. Red drum action has also still been very good. Flounder are biting well if you try a variety of live baits, like menhaden, mud minnows, and mullet to see what they are hitting. Spanish are just off the beach, and barracudas are on the Sherman wreck. A 30 inch sailfish was landed on a charter with a live cigar minnow, as well as some cobia hookups. Further offshore, the bigger kings have moved into the 390/390, the Jungle, and Myrtle Beach Rock. Pogies for king bait have shown up in good numbers, but they are moving along the beach so it take some looking to find them.
Patrick Kelly, at Captain Smiley Fishing Charters, reports good red drum fishing this week, with gulp baits and live mud minnows producing the most strikes. Fish are coming from a variety of areas, from Little River Inlet to Dunn Sound and Bonaparte Creek. Flounder have mostly still been undersized but they are around to be caught. Other catches this week included a few gray trout and some ladyfish to provide some excitement.
Ann, at Cherry Grove Fishing Pier, reports good catches of flounder, but no big fish lately. Bottom fishermen are getting whiting and an occasional spot. Pluggers on the end are doing well on bluefish and spanish mackerel.
