Brant, at Ocean Isle Fishing Center, reports the gulf stream action is very good. Tons of dolphin are around the 100/400 and the Black Jack Hole in the 10 to 20 lb. class. Tuna are scattered mostly in the 100/400 area, but they are nice sized fish ranging from 40 to 50 pounds.

Wahoo catches have been random, and they are running smaller in the 15 to 35 lb. range.

Closer to shore, there was an 18 lb. mutton snapper caught on the bottom, which is a rare catch for our area.

King mackerel have been biting well in the 390/390 area, and cobia are making their way to the beach. Several are being caught by those looking for them on nearshore wrecks with live eels or trolling live baits just like for kings.

Stan Gurganus, at Ocean Isle Fishing Center, reports the inshore fishing has been good for flounder. Drifting small pogies on the bottom of creek channels and in the inlets has been the best tactic. And redfish are biting live shrimp along the jetties at Little River.

Along the beach the spanish mackerel and bluefish can be caught on the reefs by vertical jigging.

Cecil, at the Rod and Reel Shop, reports whiting, spots, blues, and sharks being caught in the surf.

Flounder and trout are being caught in rivers and creek mouths. Many flounder are 12-19″ in length. And sheepshead are hanging around pilings.

Many kings and dolphin are being caught offshore using ballyhoo and live cigar minnows.

Will, at Ocean Isle Pier, reports catches of small whiting and trout. The trout are biting shrimp.

No kings were caught over the Memorial Day weekend, but fairly good-sized blues are coming in on Gotchas. The biggest weighed 15lbs.
