Dave, at Ocean Crest Pier, reports the speckled trout have made their way onto the beach. Anglers with live shrimp are having the best luck with live shrimp. The flounder being caught are ranging 2 to 3 pounds and preferring live baits on the bottom. Shrimp fished on the bottom has been good for catching blues, pompano, and whiting. Plenty of menhaden are hanging around the pier and along the beach so the king and cobia bite has turned on. 14 kings were landed this week but the big news is the arrival of cobia. 42 and 63 pounders have been weighed in and an angler even caught one from the surf in the area. The Oak Island Open pier tournament is coming up just in time for the great bite thats happening.

Val at Yaupon Pier reports 2-4lb trout being caught on gotchas and live shrimp. There are a few flounder around. A 23.6lb King Mackerel was caught Monday morning on a bluefish. Spanish are hitting red-headed gotcha plugs, many weigh in around 2lbs. Water temps were 69-70 degrees.
