Brant, at Ocean Isle Fishing Center, reports the gulf stream action has cooled off. This is even though the wahoo bite has picked up some and there continues to be consistently good catches of dolphin.

Grouper are biting well in the 90 to 110’ areas, especially the ledges southwest of the Tower.

Lots of action is going on in the 50 to 80’ depths, with the numbers of dolphin the biggest surprise. They are running up to 20 lbs. and hitting slow trolled dead cigar minnows.

Kings and cobia are also active in these areas, with many of the charter boats limiting out on cobia. The hot spots have been the 390/390, Shark Hole, and the 65 Foot Hole.

Just outside the inlets and along the beach, the spanish mackerel and bluefish are in good numbers hitting Clark spoons.

Stan, at Ocean Isle Fishing Center, reports the inshore flounder fishing is getting much better as far as size is concerned. Fish have been around 16 to 20” this week, and they’re mainly hitting live bait in the rivers and inlets.

Redfish are hitting live bait on the falling tide around the Little River jetties.

Speckled trout prefer live shrimp, and they are being caught around most of the area bridges.

Will, at Ocean Isle Pier, reports that trout and spots are biting.

There haven’t been any cobia or king bites, but surely with the waters warming there will be a hookup soon.
