The annual Seaview Pier Dogfish Tournament was held this year on Saturday, February 17. There were 145 anglers that signed up to fish from 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm in search of a winning dogfish, and a total of 41 dogfish were weighed in.

This year’s top dogfish came from William Goodacre. Goodacre’s winning dogfish weighed 9.3 lbs., and it was caught on a piece of squid. The first-place finish brought him $725 in prize money.

The second-place dogfish came from Josh Sloop, of Surf City. His 9.0 lb. dogfish fell for a piece of squid on a fish finder rig. He landed the 9.0 lb. dogfish around 1:30, and it was one of seven he caught over the 8 hours of fishing.

The 9-pounder was easily his biggest of the day, with the rest of the fish all under 5 pounds.

The Seaview Per Dogfish Tournament, including the prize money and raffles given out throughout the day, as well as the awards ceremony, wouldn’t be possible without the sponsor support of such businesses as Seacoast Trim Works, East Coast Sports, Joey Kellum Rods, Yopp Brothers, Sportsman’s Wholesale, and Soggy Bottom Bait & Tackle, among others.
