Stan, at Captain Stanman’s Fishing Charters, reports that they have had the best bite of 20 pound kings in the past several years out of Bogue Inlet at the nearshore rocks 10 to 12 miles out. It’s been happening at such places as Charlie (C), D, E, Honey Hole, and the Southeast Bottoms.

A few miles further out there has also been good activity at the rock south of the 13 Buoy, including a 27 pounder.

The big kings will be heading to the beach barring any hurricanes. Try flying a kite with a pogie around Station Rock, the inlet buoy, East Rock, Jim Davis Rock, and/or Lost Rock.

Sailfish have been spotted in some bait spreads, and a few have been caught on live sardines and cigar minnows while live bait fishing for kings. A blue/white Cape Lookout Screamer in front of your baits will entice these sailfish.

Menhaden have been sporadic in the ICW around Swansboro. You can get your bait instantly on one day and the following day look for an hour or two. The jig bait has returned to the Alphabet Buoys. They are medium to large sardines and cigar minnows. Always take a box of cigar minnows just in case you don’t get any livies.

Rhonda, at Bogue Inlet Pier, reports that some spots are biting shrimp on the bottom.

Sand fleas are producing black drum up to 2 pounds.

The flounder bite has been good. Fish up to 4 pounds are eating Carolina-rigged minnows. The minnows are also producing trout up to 2.5 pounds.

Plug casters have been successful with the bluefish.

Big kings of 36 and 38 pounds rewarded live baiters this week.

The water is 85 degrees.
