Swansboro Rotary King Mackerel/Blue Water Tournament

The 24th annual Swansboro Rotary King Mackerel/Blue Water Tournament, held each year over Memorial Day weekend, attracted 173 boats in the King Mackerel division and 51 boats in the Blue Water division this year.

In the Largest King Mackerel division, the top finishers are as follows: 1st place went to Ashley Jones, from Walstonburg, NC, fishing on the “Miss Teny,” with a 32.00 lb. king; 2nd place went to Mitch G. Yates, of Winston Salem, NC, fishing on the “Sea Rat,” with a 29.05 lb. king; 3rd place went to Michael Conger Jr., from Grimesland, NC, fishing on the “Plumbers Paradise,” with a 28.35 lb. king; and 4th place went to John E. Lewis, from Morehead City, NC, fishing on the “Second Chanze,” with a 25.05 lb. king.

Locals that placed in the Top 10 in the Largest King Mackerel division include 5th place finisher Grady Gaston Hughes, of Wilmington, fishing on the “Reel Music,” with a 18.15 lb. king; 7th place finisher Jerry L. Hinnant, from Sneads Ferry, fishing on the “Fishinnant,” with a 16.95 lb. king; 9th place finisher Charles Thomas, from Sneads Ferry, fishing on the “Magic,” with a 15.35 lb. king; and 10th place finisher Terry T. Wells, from Wilmington, fishing on the “Rock Candi,” with a 14.35 lb. king.

Ken T. Miller, from Rocky Mount and fishing on the “Outlaw,” won the Blue Water Billfish division with 300 points. A blue marlin release was worth 300 points, and there were seven boats tied with 300 points. The “Outlaw” released their blue 14 minutes before the second place finisher. The Blue Water Lady division was won by Sara Elizabeth Webb fishing on the “Commi$ion$.” She won with a 36.6 lb. dolphin. Andrew Webb, also fishing on the “Commi$ion$,” won the Blue Water Junior division with a 28 lb. dolphin.

The King Mackerel Aggregate (the weight of your one heaviest fish on each of the fishing days) was won by a total weight of 48.50 lbs. The total was brought to the docks by Mitch Yates on the “Sea Rat.” Ashley Jones, the overall king winner, won the 23 and Under King Mackerel division.

Team Central Chevrolet, from Sanford, NC, won the Cobia division with a 55.30 lb. cobia. Chuck Routh, from Kernersville, NC, and fishing on the “Second to None,” won the Largest Wahoo division with a 27.35 lb. wahoo. The Largest Dolphin was won by Ralph Webb, from Wilson, NC, and fishing on the “Commi$ion$.” He brought in a 36.60 lb. dolphin.

Christie Cannon won the Cobia Lady division with a 38.20 lb. fish. She was fishing on the “Reel Doctor” out of Beaufort, NC. The King Mackerel Lady division title went to Kristy Godwin of Sneads ferry. She brought in a 10.75 lb. king while fishing on the “Bad Habit.” The King Mackerel Junior division went to Dylan Sanders. He brought in a 9.20 lb. king while fishing on the “King Krazy” out of Nashville, NC.
