Z-Man’s MudStudZ
Z-Man’s newest release is their new MudStudZ, a pre-rigged soft bait that was designed to match the hatch with the mud minnows that are a constant presence in our shallow inshore waters, making them a dependable forage for red drum, flounder, and speckled trout.
The MudStudZ is purpose built for fishing slowly along the bottom, as it was created with a low center of gravity that keeps the bait running upright, keeping it from rolling over and snagging.
It also features Z-Man’s newer SWAG tail which is a hybrid wedge style paddle tail that creates an enticing wag at all retrieval speeds.
This bait will come pre-rigged with a weighted heavy duty sickle hook and available in 2.75” (1/4 oz.) and 3.25” (3/8 oz.) sizes.
The 2.75” will be a great size for all sorts of scenarios, from fishing shallow flats, creeks, and grass banks looking for red drum or combing the bottom for flounder, to fishing in the lights at night trying to match small flickering bait.
On the other hand, the 3.25” will be a great option for fishing deeper ledges or around docks in heavy current, making for a fat mud minnow presentation that a fish would be stupid to pass on. The 3/8 oz. model should also be an excellent size and weight to use fishing slow for trout, as pre-rigged paddletails have been popular for years for capitalizing on specks, especially with cooler water temps.
If you’re already a fan of pre-rigged paddletails, now you have an even tougher option as the MudStudZ is made of Z-Man’s nearly indestructible Elaztech soft bait formula.
With plenty of colors to stay dialed in across our shifting water clarity, from realistic Mud Minnow to brighter options like Pearl or Glow Chartreuse, to darker colors such as Purple Demon or Goldrush, you can match whatever conditions you’re dealing with on any given tide.
The 2.75” and 3.25” sizes will be priced at $6.99 and $7.99, perhaps a noticeable price for a single pre-rigged bait, but that gets you a pre-rigged soft bait that won’t fall apart on you, and since the Elaztech is so tough, just like any other Z-Man plastics, they last forever.
