Pelican Micro Cases

As anglers, we’re participants in an extremely gear intensive sport, and protecting that valuable gear must be a priority. Pelican’s line of Micro Cases give anglers an easy and affordable way to protect valuables like cameras, handheld electronics, smart phones, and just about anything else that wasn’t designed with the marine environment in mind.

Stories of soaked cell phones come particularly to mind. What angler hasn’t had a buddy (or been that buddy) who has to go through the expense and hassle of getting a new phone after falling or dropping their phone overboard—an accident made much more severe with the spread of smart phones costing hundreds of dollars.

Who better to trust with one’s valuables than Pelican, a company that’s made a name for itself protecting sensitive electronics and equipment for customers as demanding as the US military? The company’s Micro Case line features seven models ranging from the 1010, small enough to be dedicated to the smallest digital camera or cell phone, to the 1060, with plenty of room for phone, camera, a handheld GPS, lunch, and plenty of other items that need to stay dry and protected.

The larger Micro Cases are ideal dry storage for a boat console that doesn’t have any. Several anglers can toss phones, keys, wallets, and any other small and delicate item into the box and fish worry-free, knowing that even if they fall overboard, their valuables will be safe and dry. If somehow the case falls in, it floats, and the items will still be dry and safe.

In addition to protecting the contents from water, the boxes are certified crush-proof, so should a thrashing cobia land on one (or in the event of any lesser disaster), anglers need not worry.

The Micro Cases are available with clear or solid-color construction, allowing buyers to either view or keep the contents of the box private. A rubber interior liner further cushions the articles inside from shock and, further, acts as an O-ring to seal the lid when it’s closed. Another innovative feature, each box has a Pressure Equalization valve, which balances interior and exterior air pressure but seals water out.

The metal bits in the cases (mostly hinge pins) are all stainless steel, so no worries about the box corroding in the marine environment, and each also comes with a carabiner attached, allowing anglers to securely clip it where they need it.

All Pelican products come with the company’s Lifetime Guarantee of Excellence, which, as the company puts it, means customers are protected so long as the product isn’t a victim of “Sharkbite, bear attack, or children under 5.”

Pelican products are available at a variety of local dealers, and anglers can learn more about the entire line at the company’s website www.pelican.com.
